Obituary of Helio Meneses
July 17, 1942 - Terceira Azores, Portugal
September 17, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta
Helio Meneses, beloved husband of Liduina Meneses of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021 at the age of 79 years.
Helio was born in Terceira Azores, Portugal on July 17, 1942. He married Liduina in 1965 and they immigrated to Calgary, Canada in 1969. Helio accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of his family. He had a passion for all sports, especially the Benfica Soccer club and the Boston Bruins. Helio’s most memorable vacation was the many trips back home to Terciera Azores and taking part in running with bulls in the streets of Terciera. He will be most remembered for his sense of humor.
Besides his loving wife, Helio is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Noel of Calgary, AB; two sons, Roberto of Vancouver, BC, and Helder of Calgary, AB; and two grandchildren, Kaden and Karson of Calgary, AB. Helio is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Venancio and Jesuina, Dimas and Piadade, both of Calgary, AB; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Cidalia and Fernando of Boston, USA, and Maria Natal and Manuel of Terciera Azores, Portugal; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Helio was predeceased by his parents, Simao and Rosa Meneses and his daughter-in-law Heather Meneses.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church (4747 – 30th Street S.E., Calgary, AB) on, Thursday, September 23, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. onwards. Rosary prayer will be held at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church (4747 – 30th Street S.E., Calgary, AB) on Friday, September 24, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
