Obituary of Susan Ann Cordwell

Susan Cordwell of Okotoks, AB, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021 at the age of 78 years.

Susan was born in Salford, West UK to John and Sarah Bates. When she was just nine months old her and her siblings were taken from their parents and placed into a Children's Home. When she was 6 years old she went to live with James and Jessie Oldham who would become her adoptive parents at age 16 and give her a happy and loving home. Susan spent her childhood enjoying Brownies, being a part of the church choir and spending summer holidays at her Aunt Hilda and Uncle Bill's farm with her cousins. As a teenager Susan had lots of fun with her gang of friends. Their weekends would be spent going to the pictures, the chip shop and lots of dancing at various ballrooms. She graduated from Loreburn Commercial College where she learned shorthand and typing and at age 15, acquired a secretarial position working for Granada. Starting off in the buying department she then moved into the typing pool working for the newsroom, reality and game shows, the sales and advertising department and eventually ending up in the casting department. Granada provided some memorable experiences such as getting to dance on screen with Marty Wilde, sitting on stage while Tom Jones sang to her, witnessing The Beatles having a food fight in the cafeteria, and getting to meet up and coming actors such as Michael Caine.  During this time she also met her future husband-to-be Kevin, who happened to be her friend Lester's younger brother. They were married on May 29th, 1965, moved to Canada in 1966, and aside from a brief time in the States this is where they lived and raised their two children moving between Ontario, Alberta and B.C.  Susan loved her family and friends and one of her favorite things was spending time with them. She was an animal lover, enjoyed watching movies, a good cup of tea and having fun at the casino. 

She is survived by her two children, Janine (Neil) and Myles (Dawn); along with her two grandsons, Hudson and Alexander. Susan was predeceased by her husband Kevin.
