Obituary of Marina SCOTT

Marina Scott of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at the age of 86 years.

Marina was born in Radisson, SK, on August 3, 1935 the sixth of seven children to her parents, Alexander and Hilda Scott. She was educated in Radisson and moved on to secretary school in Saskatoon. She married George Yakiwchuk and together they had five children. Marina worked various jobs in her lifetime, including the Cardston Court House, Simpson Sears, and with her elegant style and innate fashion sense, she opened her own business, a lingerie shop she called The Elegant Rose. Marina was a wonderful wife, caring mother and a loving grandmother. She was known for her kindness, generosity, laugh, huge smile, energy, and social grace. Marina always welcomed family and friends into her home and gave the utmost hospitality. There were fewer things Marina loved more than music. She could often be found at the King Eddy, every Saturday for the legendary “Open Blues Night”. She will be most remembered for her sharp wit, and her lovely style. Her ability to keep up on the latest fashion trends was truly unparalleled. She was the coolest wife, mother, grandmother, aunt ,and friend to anyone lucky enough to have her come into their lives. Marina was most proud of her family, including her eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. 

Marina is survived by her children, Dean (Gail), Dale (Lorna), Laurie Ann (Lyle), and Mark (Lydia); daughter-in-law Renee, grandchildren, Ryan (Anab), Dustin (Kelley), Blake, Lyndsy (Levi), Blair (Jessica), Devin, Rhett, Landon, Aaron, Parker, and Adam; and great-grandchildren, Dylan, Maleek, Markell, Inaya, Ivy, Jax, Jayce, Claire, Will, Izabella, Kalia, Paislee, and Phinn. She is also survived by her dear beautiful sister Jean and brother-in-law, Eugene. 

Marina was predeceased by her husband George, son Donald, sisters, Gail (Claire) and Ellen (Albert); brother-in-law Ray, and brothers, Alex (Gerry), Duncan (Ann), Ron (Dawn).

Her hearts treasure was her love for family and friends. Her generous gifts live on in the lives of all those she has touched. Shine On Mama Bear!

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Monday, October 4, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Those attending will be asked to confirm one of the following, (A) COVID vaccination (date requested), OR (B) a negative COVID test (within 72 hours), OR (C) Medical exemption AND valid government identification (with name & date of birth) OR (D) Under 12 years of age.
