Obituary of Kenneth Granville Teare

September 2, 1942 – Calgary, Alberta

October 14, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

Ken Teare, beloved husband of Sylvia Teare, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at the age of 79 years, with his family and caregivers by his side.

Ken was born and raised in Calgary, he attended Elbow Park Elementary, Elboya Junior High and Central High School. Ken completed an electrical engineering degree at the University of Alberta, and then an MBA at the University of Western Ontario. He worked for TransAlta Utilities for almost twenty-five years, ending his career as VP Customer Service. Ken then worked as a consultant for a few years before joining the Tire Recycling Management Board, from there he went on to the Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corporation. He was with ABCRC as their President and CEO for seven years. Ken spent his youth on horseback, he worked summers for Brewster in the mountains with the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies, packing horses and guiding. He did that from the time he was thirteen until he was twenty. Ken was a member of Woodcliff United Church, The Rotary Club of Downtown Calgary, the Glencoe Club, and APEGA. Ken always said he had five main hobbies: horseback riding, downhill skiing, sailing, golfing, and flying. Ken maintained his skills in all of them until dementia got in the way. His main love was always flying! He obtained his pilot’s license in 1962 and flew every chance he got. Over his lifetime he owned four small aircraft, usually with somebody else which made it more economical, and he always aimed to put at least 100 hours of flying on the planes each year. Ken flew across Canada, many times to the west coast, all over Alberta, and several times to Mexico.

Ken and Sylvia were married in 1966 and have two great children, Bradley, and Stephanie; two wonderful grandchildren, Mason age 9, and Ryker age 6; and a fabulous daughter-in-law Kara. Ken was a great father always so proud of his children and more recently his grandchildren. Ken and Sylvia were soulmates from the start. They travelled extensively and had wonderful times together. Ken was loved and will be missed.
