Obituary of Desmond James First Rider

December 5, 1987 – Calgary, Alberta

October 15, 2021 – Siksika Nation, Alberta

 

IT IS GREAT SADDNESS WE ANNOUNCE THE loss of our Son, Partner, Father, Brother, Grandson, Nephew, Desmond (Dez) First Rider to a short health battle, surrounded by his immediate family.

 

Desmond loved making music and was always recording new material and posting them on Facebook and YouTube. He loved cooking and trying new recipes to share with his family. Desmond was a hard worker and took pride in being a Contract Roofer beside his brother Dreaver. Desmond had also shared his dream to one day become an Engineer because it was his passion.

 

Desmond leaves behind his true love Melissa Shot Both Sides, his sons: Khaius and Bishop First Rider, Rico, Xavier, and daughter Mayla. He also leaves behind to mourn his mother Karen (Darrell) First Rider, Auntie/mom: Joyce First Rider, his brothers: Dreaver (Karleen), Jamie (Serena), Jericho First Rider and Emmitt First Rider, Tyler and Devin Running Rabbit, as well his sisters Jill and Kelly (Garrett) First Rider and Taryn (Charles) Running Rabbit. He also leaves behind his grandmothers: Rachel First Rider (Siksika Nation) and Louisa Lagrelle (Rocky Mountain House). Aunts: Angel (Erwin) Bear Chief, Rose Running Bird, Annie Lagrelle, Uncles: Clyde (DeeDee) and Sam (Tammy) First Rider, Chad Many Guns of Siksika Nation, Darryl and Francis Lagrelle of Rocky Mountain House. And Numerous family members from Siksika Nation and Rocky Mountain House.

 

Desmond is predeceased by his baby sister Courtney and his brothers: Avery and Ryan First Rider, as well as his father Dean Lagrelle, grandmothers Albertine Low Horn (Siksika Nation) and Clara Lagrelle (Rocky Mountain House), Grandfather Clive First Rider, Uncles: Gerald, Casey, and Fred Lagrelle (RMH).

 

Wake services will be held at the home of Joyce First Rider, Suzy Slough-House 93 (Map 3B) on Thursday October 21st @ 6:00pm. Funeral Services will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church @ 1:00 pm. Resting place will be at Paul Little Walker Cemetery. Drive-by Feast to follow at the residence of Joyce First Rider. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed here.

 

The family would like to thank Tyler White, Siksika Nation Health Director for making it possible to speed up the process to bring Desmond home. A HUGE Thank you goes out to RN Tessa Jones for being there to take care of him in his last moments, the family appreciates all the compassion and care you have shown towards Desmond.

 

The family apologizes to any family and friends that have been missed.
