Obituary of Mike Olden

January 20, 1943 – Rickamore, Northern Ireland

October 16, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Michael James Olden passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 16 2021 at the age of 78 years after a short battle with cancer.

Mike was born in Rickamore, Northern Ireland on January 20, 1943. He came to Calgary in 1966 as a Millwright and met Irene. They married and had a daughter Michelle in 1967. Next they moved to Fort McMurray where Mike worked for GCOS. They welcomed their son, Sean in 1972. In 1978 they moved back to Calgary. Mike had many adventures working all over the world in the mining industry. In 1990 he moved the family to TumblerRidge, BC, where he worked at Quintette Coal. He returned to Calgary in 1990 where he started his business Mikan Motors. Throughout his life he had many interests; he got his pilot license, bought a houseboat and a sail boat where he sailed with his family on Glenmore Reservoir. He loved all genres of music, playing golf, fishing with his son, making wine, as well as an avid interest in astronomy. He was always there to lend a helping hand to his family and friends He was a proud father,  grandfather and great-grandfather.

Mike is survived by his children, Michelle Olden and Sean (Karalynn) Olden; four grandchildren, Jake (Kate) Olden, Rylee Olden, Max Olden, and Ethan Olden; and two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Michael. He was predeceased by his Mother and Father
