Obituary of Darlene Fay Merrett

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving beautiful, mother, grandmother and Gigi, Darlene Fay Merrett. She passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at the age of 81.
Darlene was born on March 30, 1940 in High River, AB. Darlene’s family lived in Edmonton, AB most of her life, graduating from high school in Calgary, AB. She received her nurses training at the Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing as a RN. On September 2, 1961 Bob and Darlene were married in Calgary, AB. Bob and Darlene loved to travel and took many road trips across Canada and the United States. They also traveled internationally with friends.
Darlene’s legacy will be her family and her unconditional love for almost everyone she met. Her grace and beauty left its footprint with everyone she met. Darlene loved her book club and playing scrabble and bridge with her friends.
The years of being a grandmother and Gigi were some of the best. She loved to cuddle her great-grandchildren and read stories to share with them her love of books. She loved good times and a good buttery Chardonnay with family and friends.
Darlene is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (John) and Teri (Tammarah); granddaughters, Jessica, Chelsie (Steve), Erin (Thomas); great-granddaughters, Kaydence, Aspen, Laura and Savannah, and great-grandson Price.
Darlene was predeceased by her husband, Bob, who she missed dearly; father Armin Roy Hyde, adopted father Ray Austin, her mother Thelma Austin, brother Dale Austin, son Michael and great-granddaughter Arizona.
A Celebration of Darlene’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, November 25, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Those attending will be asked to confirm one of the following, (A) COVID vaccination (date requested), OR (B) a negative COVID test (within 72 hours), OR (C) Medical exemption AND valid government identification (with name & date of birth) OR (D) Under 12 years of age.
