Obituary of Phyllis Barry
August 26, 1931 – High River, Alberta
January 1, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta
Phyllis was born in High River, AB, on August 26, 1931, into an Airforce family. She moved to Dunnville, ON, when she was very young, then back to High River when she was in Grade 9. She was a very good student and after high school went on to study nursing at the Holy Cross Hospital. She met the love of her life while nursing, hockey player Ray Barry, who became her husband of 65 years. Phyl was a championship curler, an avid golfer, and served as President of Ladies Golf at several golf courses in Calgary. She organized tournaments and knew every rule in the Rules of Golf. She was a very talented artist and a gifted quilter. But most of all, she loved her family. There were many, many gatherings at her house for all to get together for almost any celebration. With a wonderful sense of humor and an outgoing personality, she made every event special. She loved every accomplishment and photo of every grandchild and great grandchild. We will miss her dearly.
Phyl is survived by her children Pat (Tom), Susan (Fred), Marty (Terry), Matt (Chris), Paul (Penny) and Michael (Heather) as well as eighteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two brothers, Laurie (Agnes) and Doug (Thelma).
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Ray Barry and by her brother, Ted (Lorraine).
