Obituary of Jolan Mack (nee Fegyverneki)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that mom, Jolan Mack of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022, just shy of her 89th birthday.

Jolan was born January 10, 1933 in Calgary and grew up in the Victoria Park area. Being near the Stampede, she always participated and made a point to attend the Stampede festivities each year. After she finished school, Jolan met her future husband John, at Mannix. They were married on April 14, 1956; bought a house in Haysboro with a huge yard and started a family. After all the kids were in school, Jolan went to work as an administrative assistant with the Calgary Board of Education and spent many happy years at Sam Livingston school. In her retirement, she volunteered with the Calgary Opera, Philharmonic, Airport White Hatters and Heritage Park. Gardening was a passion for Jolan, she constantly tended to her flowers and loved to show her yard to anyone who was interested.  Travel was another passion, Jolan enjoyed visiting new places and experience new cultures around the world. She loved to read and watch crime mysteries and biographies. She had a wonderful singing voice and would frequently sing out loud to the radio or TV. She enjoyed her time with all her grandchildren, playing games with them when they were young and was always proud of their academic, sport, and music successes as they grew older. Jolan was the best of mothers. She provided us with many great memories of family vacations, laughter to the end and a home that was filled with love. 

Jolan will be lovingly remembered by her children, Corey (Pauline), Donna, and Gary; and her beloved grandchildren, Ryan, Evan, Nolan, and Lucas. She is also survived by her sister Beulah. She was predeceased by her husband John, infant son Russell, parents, Imre and Jolan Fegyverneki; brothers, Barney and Imre; and sister Irene. 

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 7, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mrs. Mack’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
