Obituary of Adeline Mary Devloo
June 28, 1938 – Arabella, Saskatchewan
January 6, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta
Adeline Devloo of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at the age of 83 years.
Adeline Mary (Olenick) Devloo was born on June 28, 1938, on the family farm at Arabella, Saskatchewan to Metro and Katherine (Dykun)Olenick. She was raised on the farm with her six brothers Paul, Ernie, Steve, Eugene, Dennis, and Adrian. Being the only girl on the farm meant much time in the kitchen with her mom preparing meals especially for the big threshing crews, milking cows, gardening, preserving, and just helping wherever she could. She attended school in Arabella grades one to eight having to walk two miles one way to school, grades nine and ten were taken by correspondence. Grades eleven and twelve were completed at Sacred Heart Academy, which was a private boarding school for girls operated by the Ukrainian Catholic Sisters. This school was eighty miles from the farm and so visits back home were not often, only for special holidays. In September 1956 after graduation, she went to Saskatoon to attend Business College and obtained a Secretarial certificate. After working in Saskatoon for two years she ventured off to Calgary by train with a girlfriend to look for work. In October of 1959, Adeline met Alfons Devloo at a dance and fell in love. They were married at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church on October 9, 1960, in Sturgis, SK. They made their home in Calgary where they were blessed with three children Cheryl, Kelly, and Michael. Adeline always worked out of the home mainly for the Calgary Coop. In February of 1979, her husband Alfons passed away from cancer. At that time a decision was made to move back to Saskatchewan to spend time with her father who was also suffering from cancer. She moved to Yorkton, SK and lived there for eight years. But Saskatchewan just wasn’t home for her so she decided to move back to Calgary. The Calgary Coop offered her previous Payroll Supervisor job back. She worked there until a severe stroke in 2000 forced an early retirement. This stroke never ruined her spirit or determination to still live life. Over the years Adeline enjoyed cooking, camping, fishing, travelling, and spending time with family.
Adeline’s big smile, laugh, kind heart, and witty spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughter Cheryl (Eugene) Holodniuk, son Kelly (Pam) Devloo and son Michael Devloo; grandchildren, Joey Holodniuk, Michelle Holodniuk, Jeff (Megan) Holodniuk, Jamie (Ashley Trampe) Holodniuk, Brittany Devloo and Allison (Garret) McMullen; and great-grandchildren, Kael Holodniuk, Lillianne Rivette, and Emily Rivette. She is also survived by her brothers, Paul (Natalie) Olenick, Ernie (Joyce) Olenick, Steve (Marj) Olenick, Eugene (Barb Dafoe) Olenick, Dennis (Chris) Olenick and Adrian (Vera) Olenick; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband Alfons, her parents, Metro and Katherine; sister-in-law Patricia Olenick, father and mother-in-law, Gerard and Rachel Devloo; and brother-in-law Harvy Devloo.
