James "Jim" Boyes

Obituary of James "Jim" Boyes

May 26, 1929 - January 5, 2022

It is with great love and sadness that the family of Jim Boyes, of Abbotsford, BC, announces his passing on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at the age of 92 years. While enjoying his annual Christmas trip to Calgary, Jim peacefully passed away surrounded by the love of family.

Jim was born and grew up in Vancouver, BC, the only son of James and Gladys Boyes, on May 26, 1929. Many of his favourite memories stem from experiences at their summer cottage at White Rock. His adventures took him north to manage the general store in Mayo, Yukon where he met nurse Alice Hryciw, who happened to be having her own Yukon adventure. They married in 1955 and raised their family while moving from the Yukon to Edmonton to Vancouver to Toronto and back to Edmonton, spanning a career of over 30 years with the Kellogg’s cereal company, all the while establishing a network of strong lifelong friendships. They retired to White Rock, BC in 1989, and most recently moved to Abbotsford to be closer to family.

Jim loved his family most of all. He leaves to mourn, his four married children: Jim (Sandra) of Edmonton, Diane Herbert (Dale) of Abbotsford, Joan Meister (Dale) of Calgary, and Gordon (Donna-May) of Abbotsford; grandchildren: Katrina, Kerry, Christine, Dylan, Andrea, Gary, Dane, Kohl, Luke, Kaila, Amy, and Jesse; and great-grandchildren: Capri, Parker, Preston, Everly and Ethan. He is also survived by his sister Donna Paynton of Burns Lake, BC; as well as many Hryciw, Paynton and Witala nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Alice, his loving wife of 62 years, and by his sister Merle Witala.
