September 28, 1956 – Regina, Saskatchewan

January 10, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Fredric “Rick” Bell Wilsack of Calgary, AB, on January 10, 2022, at the age of 65 years. Rick passed away peacefully at home surrounded with family love.

Rick was born in 1956, the son of late Joseph Angus Wilsack and Doreen Evelyn Wilsack (Ogilvie). He was a compassionate, driven, and thoughtful man, ever interested in the pursuit of health-conscious living. His strong determination served him well not only in his personal life but his professional life, where he was viewed as a leader, who took great pride in his accomplishments in the planning, management and construction of a world-class calibration facility employing innovative pioneering technology in natural gas measurement. Although challenged with many medical obstacles in his life, he journeyed through these with perseverance and infallible dedication to his family and continued to defy odds, often overcoming what were once seen as insurmountable hurdles. He was always willing to share what he could of his knowledge, outcomes, and lessons, with who he could, when he could, always committed to the desire and vision that his experiences could be of a helping hand to others.

Rick could be characterized as a man within which still waters run deep, showing up to his life with quiet courage, deep strength and a fearlessness that steered his compass toward living his life with bravery and resiliency. He listened intently to his intuition and believed deeply in the power of his small but mighty community. What could not be expressed with his words, he shared with his heart. He was a man who consistently showed up to the arena, who dared greatly and quietly endured, tapping into deep-rooted hope and kindness. His energy will continue to radiate through the hearts of his family and friends, who will carry forward his steadfast loyalty, kindness, and valor and who will pay forward the gift of his love and generosity.

Rick is survived by and will be deeply missed by his beloved partner Marion, stepdaughter Nicole, and two sisters Sharry (Dennis) and Wendy (Jim). He was predeceased by sister Jo Ann (Skip).

A private ceremony honoring the gift of Rick’s life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks with great appreciation for donations to Canadian Liver Foundation and The Kidney Foundation of Canada be considered.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the many healthcare workers that assisted Rick and his family throughout his journey. It is without doubt that the compassion, tenacious commitment, and power of a collective united in caring for and advocating with him that we were blessed with more time, more love, and more memories to carry in our hearts.
