Condolences
When I moved here from ottawa, to join the City of Calgary law dept., I was invited to speak at the Knights of the Round Table. That led to my membership, The level of debate and discussion was very high, and Herb was a regular at the meetings. Being a tall man, and very articulate, he could be an intimidating figure but always meant well, but could put a speaker on the spot. The kind of person that made the Knights worth going to. I havent been a member for some years now, but remember Herb and the Knights fondly for the intellectual stimulation and fellowship that is rare in ones life. RIP, Herb. And if the Lord ever needs exceptional counsel and representation, we can rest easy knowing you are there.

My sincere condolences to Julie and Ross and family. Herb was my late husband’s life-long friend. They met when both were young men and the friendship just grew. I came on the scene later (49 years ago). Herb was best man at our wedding. There were many parties, dinners, outings, funerals, and births. Herb was extremely intelligent, kind, patient, gentle and always cheerful. As the years passed his favorite expression to me was “memories, memories.” God bless you Herb. Rest In Peace. Helen Hurrell
Herb was an amazing man. I met him a few years ago after I joined the Knights of the Round Table. I really enjoyed his wit and his sense of humour. I love wearing hats, and he would often tease me about the hat I was wearing and playfully place it on his own head. As Treasurer on behalf of the Knights as is our wont, I have sent a cheque to The Alzheimer Society in his memory. We will certainly miss him.
My sincere sympathy for your loss.

Simply one of the best people I ever had the pleasure to meet. He never forgot where he came from, and he never failed to do his best to help the people he met.
My condolences to the family. I was privileged to have Herb as both mentor and friend for over 60 years. We met in Medicine Hat where he was circuit Judge and I was a newly arrived social worker from England. One of the many highlights of our work together was the planning of the first Canadian conference for Youth in Care in 1979 the Year of the Child. A former foster child (who incidentally was at that conference) wrote about her experiences in foster care in a new text book. She has this to say about Herb "I was lucky to appear in front of Judge Herb Allard ... We all knew of him as a kind Judge, and we knew those who were not so kind." A well deserved and fitting epitaph.

Sincere condolences to Ross and Julie. Our family has many fond memories of Herb, who was an exuberant and kindly neighbour and friend.
Herb’s passing means the end of an era; one of commitment to community, family and friends and to the law that he served so long
and so well. He was always a gentleman, with a quick quip or a serious comment about important issues. He often followed such issues into the public realm, giving us the benefit of his experience and wisdom. He was my friend, mentor and colleague. We shall miss him. Rest In Peace.
Gary and Mary Jane Cioni.
Our condolences to Ross and Julie. Your Dad will be missed. I recall many enjoyable family get togethers between the Allards and the Cummings with lots of interesting discussions. Jay and I felt honored to have Herb perform our wedding ceremony - we shall treasure that memory always.
Herb was always a pleasure to talk with. A great spirit has passed. Jean Kensit
I'm sorry to hear of Herb's passing. He brought humour, friendliness, and good conversation to our monthly seniors' lunches at Mount Pleasant's community hall. If people wanted to hear an opinion on any topic, they could always count on Herb. We'll miss him.
My sincere condolences to Judge Allard's family on his passing.
I was a social worker employed by the City of Calgary in Probation Services when I first met Judge Allard. Both social workers, we shared many thoughtful conversations when I came before him in his courtroom. He was by far my most favorite Judge, and I always looked forward to seeing him and being inspired by his wisdom and kindness. Upon his retirement, our paths would cross professionally, and he never forgot me always sharing a greeting and pleasant word. He impacted many (not just your family) in his circles with his sincerity and compassion. May the warm and loving memories you hold dear help to comfort you at this time.

In addition to his rich variety of social welfare and streetwise community experience, Herb Allard selflessly gave to the family court bench long hours of hard work while respecting the rights of the parties when making difficult decisions. He was animated inside and outside the courtroom with a seemingly permanent smile on his face. Also, Herb had a remarkable ability to tell a story.
I personally found him to be a man full of integrity, community service, good humor and respect for all individuals. Once he became a judge his compassion for children was obvious to all. Avoiding legalese, Herb would speak to young people on their level. He conveyed that he cared about them and worried about their wellbeing. As mentor and friend to his judicial colleagues, members of the bar or self-represented parties, he treated all on-comers with kindness and respect. Rest easy, Herb.
