Dorothy Dowd (nee Whyte)

Obituary of Dorothy Mabel Dowd (nee Whyte)

April 21, 1933 – Toronto Ontario

January 11, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Dorothy Dowd of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at the age of 88 years.

Dorothy was a devoted mother of three girls, whom she raised on her own. Dorothy’s strength, independence and courage helped her guide her family through the years. Dorothy lived her life giving generously to others. Many times, when her girls were teenagers, their friends would take refuge in her home. They would sit in her kitchen or living room talking about the world, and current topics of the time. She listened to each person who crossed her path with understanding and concern.

Dorothy loved to travel, read and spend time with family. Her most fond memories were summers at the cottage, trips to Jamaica and Bermuda with her friends, time spent in Europe, and any family gatherings. Dorothy (aka ‘Dottie Dimples’) will always be remembered for her thoughtfulness, care and understanding of others. She was always a number one supporter for anyone who needed it. Her sense of humour was admired by all who loved her.  She had an open-mindedness and deep love for her family and friends and would do anything she could to help those in need.

Dorothy is survived by her beautiful daughters, Lynda (Brian), Andrea, and Diana of Calgary, AB; and her three wonderful grandchildren, Sandra, Laura, and Daniel, whom she loved dearly.  Dorothy was predeceased by her sister Jean Robson (nee Whyte), her brother John Whyte, and her parents, Frank, and Gladys Whyte (nee Davis).

Mom, Granny, Dorothy, you will always be in our hearts. We will miss you everyday. Peace be with you. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

The family extends their thanks to everyone for their support, love and kind words in the days leading up to Dorothy’s passing.  Dorothy cherished each, and every conversation with everyone who contacted her to share their very fond memories of their time together, and many laughs. She kept her humour until the very end.

In living memory of Dorothy Dowd, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
