Obituary of Dorothy G. Barker (nee Schutz)

Dorothy Barker of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at the age of 95 years.

Dorothy was born at Iola, AB on November 17, 1926.  She grew up on a homestead in the Blindman River Valley and then moved to Calgary, AB to attend Garbutt Business College when she was twenty years old. She lived in Calgary for the rest of her life. Dorothy met George Percival Barker at Garbutt College and they were married on June 25, 1949. They had four children, Lorraine, Allan, Carol and Donna. Dorothy’s greatest joy in life was her family. She also enjoyed traveling, oil painting, nature and beautiful scenery.  She worked as a bookkeeper for several years but quit to devote all her time to raising her family.  When her children were older she worked in Real Estate until her retirement in 1987.

Dorothy will be greatly missed by her children, Allan (Joyce), Carol (Ibrahim) and Donna; five grandchildren, Kimberly (Trevor), Byron (Kerry), Jordan, Sarah, and Ryan; and five great-grandchildren, Taiven, Isla, Lachlan, Brody, and Jetson; as well as nieces and nephews, and many friends and neighbors. She was predeceased by her husband Percy, her daughter Lorraine; and her brothers, Fred and Allan.
