Obituary of Grant Barrington Ward

June 9, 1953 – January 14, 2022

Calgary, Alberta

 

Grant Ward, beloved partner of Kathleen Mountford of Calgary, AB passed away peacefully on Friday, January 14, 2022 at the age of 68 years.

 

Grant was born in Calgary and raised in the community of Fairview. He attended Fairview school and then went on to Lord Beaverbrook High School. The majority of his working career was in the Steel Industry, and he was a member of the United Steel Workers as well as the Royal Canadian Legion, #1 Branch.

 

Grant enjoyed camping and fishing with his brother and father.  He loved to bowl, curl, and was an avid dart player. He loved to travel to warm sunny beaches like Hawaii, Cuba, Mexico, he enjoyed his trips to England and often made trips to British Columbia.

 

Grant had many one liners, too many to mention but most often could be heard saying, “I’m just passing thru.”

 

Grant is survived by his partner Kathy of 25 years; his three sons, Aaron, Parker, and Adam Ward; as well as their mother, Laurie Yakiwchuk, and his step granddaughter Nicole Mountford, all of Calgary, AB. Grant is also survived by his sister-in-law, Pat Ward, Calgary, AB, and his niece, Jennifer Lockhart (Ryan) of Calgary, AB, his nephew, Brian Ward (Susan); and his great nieces, Charlotte and Daphne Ward of Saskatoon, SK, and Madison Lockhart, of Calgary, AB; and numerous other relatives in England, British Columbia, and Alberta. Grant was predeceased by his father, Victor Ward, mother, Ethel Ward, his brother Bruce Ward.

 

Over the last two years during his battle of cancer he was surrounded by extended family and friends including, Moe, Barbara, Mike, Cassandra, Allison, Harrison, Everett, and Linda Haddon.

Kathy would also like to thank the many friends and neighbors in Millside Villas as well as the Southwood Hospice for the amazing care and compassion they gave to Grant and showed the family.
