Obituary of Christa Anna Baezner

January 14, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Christa Baezner of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022, at the age of 78 years from breast cancer.

Christa was born in Pirmasens, Germany on June 16, 1943, to parents Ernst and Emma Meder, and she married Ernst Baezner in 1962. She gave birth to their oldest son, Oliver, in 1963, and they immigrated to Canada in 1965, where their youngest son, Dirk, was born that same year.

Christa and Ernst owned and operated several delicatessens in Montreal, Calgary, and Westbank, B.C. over a period of three decades. She enjoyed walking, games, reading, and cooking.  

Christa accomplished much throughout her life but was most proud of her family. She was the family matriarch in the best sense of the word: a person who is loved and has earned respect and gained the wisdom to enrich the lives of family and friends.

She will be most remembered for her joy and laughter, even in the face of a terminal illness.

Christa is survived by her two sons, Oliver Baezner (Maria Wristen) and Dirk Baezner; her five grandchildren, Matthew (Sophie), Michael (Justina), Lorelei (Micah), Thomas, and Maya; four great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Ellie, Audrey, and Lynleigh; her sister Ruth, her nephew Juergen (Diane), and her grandniece Annika, all of Germany; as well as extended family and dear friends in Calgary, Kelowna, and Germany.

Christa was predeceased by her loving husband Ernst Baezner, her daughter-in-law Angie, and her parents.
