Obituary of Ella Alyse Schwartz

January 20, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Ella “Alyse” Schwartz passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at the age of 89 years.

Alyse was born in Antwerp, Belgium and immigrated to Canada in her teens, settling in Calgary with her late sister. Once in Canada, she became known as “Alyse”. She spoke four languages fluently, but her favourite was always having someone to converse with in French. If she put her mind to something, there was not much she could not accomplish. She learned to play piano by ear, paint, draw, sculpt, and knit. She enjoyed travelling and seeing the world, playing cards, Mahjong and a good game of Scrabble. Her passion for baking her famous chiffon cakes and giving them as gifts were legendary and truly a labour of love which cannot be duplicated.

Alyse is survived by her two children, and three grandchildren.

A Private Graveside Service will be held at Queen’s Park Cemetery, (3219 – 4 Street NW, Calgary, AB).
