Obituary of Thomas William Himmelman

HIMMELMAN, Thomas William

September 21, 1948 – Halifax, Nova Scotia

January 22, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

In his home, with his family by his side, Thomas “Tom” Himmelman passed away on Saturday January 22, 2022 in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 73 years old.

Tom will be greatly missed by his two children Sharon Himmelman and Mark Himmelman along with his daughter-in-law Susan Dube. He also leaves behind the mother of his children Deborah Hole, two grandchildren Mara and Leslie, sister Ann Delong, sister-in-law Judy Smith, nieces Heather, Nancy, Cathy, and nephew Curt.

He was predeceased by his parent Carl Himmelman and Olive Himmelman (Edmonds), brother John Himmelman and brother-in-law Laurie Delong.

Tom was born on September 21, 1948, in Halifax, Nova Scotia where he grew up and completed Grade 12. He went on to graduate from Saint Mary’s University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Commerce, Major in Accounting. He had sampled a few different careers including working at the Federal Government in the Finance Department, the Government of Nova Scotia in the Department of Transportation, and taking over the family business, Himmelman Fuels, with his brother John. He found great enjoyment when he started his career in driving. He drove limousines, taxies and then delivery driving which gave him the opportunity to meet new people and add more tales to his storybook.

Tom moved to Calgary, Alberta late 2013 to live with his son Mark. He spent his retired years spending time with his son and many great friends that he made in Calgary, but also made sure to visit home to see his daughter and granddaughters as often as he could. You could always find Tom telling one of his endless number of stories with such enthusiasm and passion that would always captivate the listener. His other favourite pastime was to be on the road, behind the wheel. He even got to fulfill his dream of owning a Mustang in 2018. His other passions included reading and spending time with his parrot Alex.

Throughout his life he was extremely giving to many fortunate people. From providing countless rides, an open ear, protection and even just making sure you had a smile on your face, he was always there. He had the biggest heart and would not hesitate to poke fun at his loved ones.

Tom, you may have left this world, but you will forever be in our hearts.
