Obituary of Irene Udsen

UDSEN, Irene (nee Ibach)
March 20, 1929 – Fox Valley, Saskatchewan
March 3, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Irene Udsen, beloved wife of Carl Udsen of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at the age of 92 years. 

Irene was born in the small town of Fox Valley, Saskatchewan where her father owned and operated the town’s Butcher Shop. In September 1947, Irene left for Regina to take a dress making course from Balfour Technical School and graduated in June 1948.  Irene went to work with her sister Victoria as a Nursing Assistant at the Fort Sanatorium in Fort Qu’Appelle Saskatchewan from 1949 to 1951. Irene moved to Calgary in 1951 and took a practical nursing course and graduated in 1952. 

Irene worked at the Children’s Hospital and the Baker Memorial Sanatorium until 1953. Irene taught ballroom dancing at Delmar Studio from 1956 to 1958 and that is where is met her husband Carl.  They were married in December 1957 and had 64 beautiful years together. Irene enjoyed their yearly camping trips to Kananaskis Provincial Park, where she could sit around the campfire with friends and family.  Irene will be most remembered for her love of her family as they meant the world to her. 

Besides her loving husband Carl, Irene is survived by her two sons, James (Nina Barerro), and Derek (Corri Beable); daughter Wendy McKuski (Ron), three grandchildren, Kelcey Fancy (Jordyn), Lisa Robinson (Corey), Jared Udsen; four great-grandchildren, Carter Fancy, Mia Robinson, Ava Fancy, Blake Robinson. She is also survived by her sister Jean Yeast (Asa). 

She was predeceased by her parents, Katherine and Henry Ibach; two brothers, Peter Ibach (Etta) and Killian Ibach (Marjory); and two sisters, Victoria Hunter (Bill) and Marie Batty (Bill).

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed
