March 31, 1923 – Winnipeg, Manitoba

March 24, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Margrete McMeekin of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2022, one week short of her 99th birthday. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert in 2006, and her brother James in 1939.

Margrete was born in Winnipeg, MB, on March 31, 1923. She met her future husband Robert “Bob” McMeekin in Kenora, ON, and they wed October 14, 1942. They resided in Winnipeg up until Bob’s passing, at which point Margrete relocated to Calgary to be close to her two sons and their families. Margrete enjoyed travel, golf, and curling. She was an avid bridge player, accumulating over 2000 ACBL (American Contract Bridge League) master points. A diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis in her sixties posed a major challenge for Margrete, but she seldom

complained although it curtailed a number of her activities.

She will be sadly missed by her son Robert, grandsons Brad McMeekin (Tiffany Burns) of Calgary and Brian McMeekin (Leisha Lane) and great grandson Tyler McMeekin of Westlock, AB and by her son James (Barb Walley) of Calgary, grandchildren Andy McMeekin (Teagan) and great granddaughters Bennie and Miloh of Saskatoon, SK, Mark Walley (Florence Liard) of Tervuren, Belgium and Tegan Walley (Cory Macdonald) of Kelowna, BC.

A private family Celebration of Life will take place at a later date this year. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Margrete’s name to the charity of your choice.

In living memory of Margrete McMeekin, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Heritage, 1708 – 16th Avenue NW, Calgary, AB, T2M 0L7, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
