Obituary of Barbara Cassley
CASSLEY, Barbara (nee Downs)
June 15, 1934 – Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire, England
March 27, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta
Barbara Cassley (nee Downs) passed away early on Saturday, March 27, 2022 after a short illness. She will be missed by her husband of 67 years, Alan Cassley, sons, Ian (Sharon) and Paul (Julie) Cassley; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Barbara was born on June 15, 1934 in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire, England. She moved with her family to the Colwyn Bay area in North Wales before the onset of WWII. It was here that she met Alan Cassley. They married in July of 1954 and in 1957 immigrated to Canada with their one year old son, Ian. They settled in Calgary and welcomed their second son, Paul in 1958. In 1964 they returned to the UK for five years, coming back to Calgary in 1969.
She inherited her love of gardening from her father and her flower beds were always well tended. Barbara loved to sing and was a longtime member of the choir at Central United Church. She enjoyed doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles and multiple needlework projects. She was a devoted Gran and Great-Gran to her family.
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Saturday April 2, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
