Obituary of Violet Hildur Christina Sellers

May 14, 1933 - Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba
April 2, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Peacefully, in her home, with her family at her side, Violet Hildur Sellers, age 88 years, of Calgary, AB, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022, after a short battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

Mom will be forever lovingly remembered by her husband of 69 years, Donald; seven children, Richard (Lillian), Ryon (Cathy), Randy (Genie), Dianne (Grant), Darlene (Rick), Ronald (Ekaterina), and Denise (Darin); eleven grandchildren, Rick, Bonnie, Bridget, Brenda, Colin, Shannon, Jocelyn, Lance, Shane, Kirsten, and Dana; five great-grandchildren, Elise, Fiona, Hannah, Callie, and Tyler; brother and sisters, Kenneth (Mary), Joan Larson, and Delores Wallmuth; sisters-in-law, Shirley Petterson, Linda Petterson, Nettie Sellers, Armond Sellers, and Joan Watson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Violet was predeceased by her parents, Hilding and Annie (nee Erickson); infant sister Deanna; brothers, Leonard and Earl; nephew Darin Petterson; and brothers-in-law, Roland Larson and Gunther Wallmuth.

Mom was born and raised in Riverland, MB. She was the oldest of five children. As a young woman, Mom worked for a short time in Winnipeg as a housemaid as well as the local grocery store, Dancyt’s in Lac du Bonnet, MB. She met her husband, Donald and after a 3-year courtship, they married on March 6, 1953. She assumed the job of homemaker for her ever-growing family of seven, as well as taking care of her mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Sellers.

Mom had a passion and was an expert at sewing, needlework, crocheting, and knitting. She always had needles in her hand, watching her news and sports. All her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have cherished keepsakes made by her loving hands. She passed her talents to her daughters and granddaughters who will continue her craft. She always had big gardens and processed as much of the vegetables as possible. In later years she couldn’t garden as much but loved tending to her flower garden and pots. As children growing up in the neighbourhood of Lac du Bonnet called Crescent Bay, Mom always welcomed and became a second mom to all the neighbourhood kids.

In 1976, Mom and Dad packed up most of their kids and belongings and moved to Calgary to join the ongoing construction boom at the time. There they settled into the house, making it their home. She went to work at Kinsie Wool, where she collected a crazy amount of yarn and patterns, then onto Kids Kastle and Hudson Bay, where she made many lifelong friends, who would meet for a lunch every so often.

She loved her telephone, which was always beside her, and would call family and friends to see how they were doing. If something happened in someone’s life, everyone knew about it that day! Her memory was sharp as a tack, knowing everyone’s birthdays, anniversaries, past events, and names of past family members. Everyone that came to visit was treated to either their favourite meal or something special that would always bring smiles to their face. Her grandchildren will always remember her perfectly shaped cookies, always heading for the cookie jar for a treat, and always being sent home with tins of cookies. Every year Mom and Dad made the long drive home, to Lac du Bonnet, which they loved so much, to visit with family and friends. Mom’s family was everything to her. It was her driving force and motivation her entire life. She was the epitome of love; unquestionable, unconditional, and unending love; to all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Respecting Mom’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service.

Rest in Peace Mom
