Obituary of Fredric (Buzz) Scott

January 30, 1935 – Drumheller, Alberta
April 5, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Fredric (Buzz) Mervin Scott, beloved husband of the late Marie Scott (nee Deagon), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday April 5, 2022 at the age of 87.

Dad was born in Drumheller, AB, on January 30, 1935. In 1956 he married his high school sweetheart and the two of them moved to Gunnar, SK. Dad began working for Gunner Mines on Lake Athabasca until it closed down in 1963. During their time there he was blessed with four children. After the mine closed they relocated to Calgary and he attended SAIT, graduating with an Apprentice in Carpentry. He then worked for Western Co-operative Fertilizers from 1965 until his early retirement in 1978.

In his early years dad enjoyed both curling and bowling with mom. As a young man, before being married he enjoyed fishing, especially in Kananaskis Country. Dad was so proud when he and mom purchased their first home in Mayland Heights in 1965. He was especially proud of the acreage they bought at Silver Lagoon near Red Lodge Provincial Park. He and Mom with the help of their four kids built a small home, garage and workshop on the property. This became their retirement home once they retired. He loved spending time in his workshop building things and tinkering. In retirement he became a snowbird and loved all the winters he was able to spend in Arizona. One of his most memorable vacations was when he took his mother to Hawaii in 1977. Dad was a quiet man and somewhat shy. He had great attention to detail and was happiest when everything was clean and in orderly fashion. He had a great love for his family, especially his beloved Marie.

Dad is survived by his three sons and two daughters-in-law, Howie and Ronalda of Calgary, AB, Rob and Kathy of Cochrane, AB, and Colin of Vernon BC; daughter and son-in-law Shelley and Alex Schmidt of Calgary, AB; eight grandchildren, Kate Mahaits of Vernon, BC, Joelle (Justin) Morris, Landon (Bianca) Scott, Tyrell Scott (Cheryce Lauren), Jesse Schmidt (Amanda Hovey), Tana Schmidt all of Calgary, Jenna (Riley) Holzapfel of Regina, SK, Viginia (Ryan) O’Driscoll of Squamish, BC; eight great-grandchildren, Zoey, Hayleigh and Jaxon Morris, Noah and Miles Scott all of Calgary, AB, Weston and Livia Holzapfel of Regina, SK, and Elija MacKinnon of Vernon, BC. He is also survived by his oldest Brother Dennis (Argyle) Scott of Mesa, Arizona; and sisters-in-law, Aileen Scott of Nanaimo, BC, and Joan Scott of Leduc, AB.

He was predeceased by his very good friend Pauline Kartushyn, his beloved wife Marie, his parents Lylia Jane and Howard Joseph Scott;  brothers, Robert Leon Scott and Wallace Wilbert Scott.

As per Dad’s request there will be no service. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared here.

The family would like to express many thanks to all the Drs. and nurses of Foothills Medical Centre Emergency and Unit 46 that helped keep  Dad as comfortable as possible during his final days.
