Obituary of Walter Swindells
February 16, 1931 - April 10, 2022
We are sad to announce that Walter Swindells of Calgary, AB passed away peacefully in the presence of family and loved ones on Sunday, April 10, 2022, at the age of 91 years.
Wally grew up in Calgary with his parents Hanna and Joseph; he was the youngest of five children. In 1952 he married the love of his life Jessie. Together they worked hard to build a home and raise their family. Through it all they always took time to go dancing! Together they would go on to celebrate their 69th anniversary. Obtaining his Journeyman plumber/gasfitter license at the age of 21 years, Wally proceeded to become an owner of A.R Wright Plumbing and Heating Ltd.
Wally’s caring nature was exemplified through his relationships with friends, neighbors, and different associations. A true Calgarian, Wally and Jessie became known for their annual Stampede breakfasts which often included many of their square-dancing friends. Wally continued this through Calgary Probus club by taking these events to senior communities each year. An avid outdoorsman, Wally passed his love of nature, camping and fishing on to his children and grandchildren. With his wife Jessie, they enjoyed many years of travel, eventually spending winters in such places as Apache Junction, Arizona and Makaha, Hawaii. They both shared a love of golfing and enjoyed many games wherever they travelled.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Sandra (Romig); sons, Douglas and Gordon (Sheila); grandchildren, Michelle, Sarah, Jacqueline, Gordon Jr., Michael, Jeffrey, Lyndsey, and Kelsey; eight great-grandchildren, and many others whose lives Wally touched.
Wally was predeceased by his wife Jessie Kathleen on May 30, 2021, as well as his sister Teresa; and brothers, Joe, Dan, and Don.
A Celebration of Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway, Fish Creek (14441 Bannister Rd SE, Calgary) on Monday, April 25, 2022, starting at 2:00 p.m. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
