Obituary of Beryl Roberta Petersen
July 5, 1927 – Parent, Quebec
April 16, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta
Beryl Petersen, of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at the age of 94 years.
Beryl was born in Parent, QC, to Robert and Nettie Hazle on July 5, 1927. Beryl left high school early to help support her family and put her older brother through university. She was highly intelligent and resourceful and went on to become the personnel director for Smith Kline and French (now GlaxoSmithKline) Pharmaceuticals Ltd in Montreal, QC, and later in Mississauga, ON. She held that position until she retired in 1985.
Beryl was a strong believer in the Christian faith and devoted her life to it. She was saved when she was a teenager. Before she married, she was a soloist on Christian radio broadcasts. As an older woman she would sing and play guitar at senior homes. Beryl was an honest, charitable, and loving person. She exemplified the verse “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” She was a good listener and never judgmental. She was always thankful, despite her rather difficult life of raising two young boys, while solely providing for her family. Beryl was a great friend and loving mother. She will be sorely missed.
Beryl is survived by her sister Dorothy of Niagara Falls, her two sons, Jim, and Wally; her sixteen grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren (soon to be fourteen). She was predeceased by her husband Clifford, and two brothers, Jack, and Bob.
