Rev. Prescott (Scotty) Harold Burrill

Obituary of Rev. Prescott (Scotty) Harold Burrill

On Easter Monday, April 18, 2022, Prescott Harold Burrill experienced the Resurrection in all of its fullness, as the sun set on his earthly life and as he rose victoriously with the Son in another.

Prescott, known to friends as “Scotty”, touched many lives with his humour and gentle disposition. His whole life, he sought to follow in his Master’s footsteps. He offered words of hope and encouragement to all he met, even during his final days living with Alzheimer’s. This example of servanthood and forgiveness blessed many and all who knew him were blessed by his presence. Along with his beloved wife Shirley, he served pastorates in Nova Scotia, British Columbia, and Alberta. Scotty was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, and hunting for big game. Being a Maritimer, lobster was his first love, but when that wasn’t available, wild meat was a close second and he was always eager to share his hunting bounty. When hunting and fishing season were over, he could be found on the dance floor square dancing.

Prescott is survived by his two sons, Harold (Frances), and John (Anne Marie); six grandsons, and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley, and his brothers, Henry, Fred, and Charlie Burrill.

Memorial Services will be held at Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church (4612 Varsity Drive Northwest, Calgary, AB), on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. Sadly, due to Covid, there will not be a reception following the service. Service attendees are requested to wear masks. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Rev. Burrill’s service streamed live at https://youtu.be/bNCzi3-An_Y on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories, and photos may also be shared and viewed here.

A special thanks is extended to the staff at Sage Hills Retirement Residence for their loving care of Prescott in his final years. He returned their love and called them all family. A thank you is also extended to Dr. Rajeev Sharma, Dr. Paul Young, and Dr. Andries Louw, who so thoughtfully and compassionately cared for Prescott throughout his final illness. You were angels in his midst. God Bless you for your gift of caring.

To our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and trusted friend;

“Well done good and faithful servant.”

Mathew 25:23
