Obituary of Andrej Szczęsny Kreutz

April 25, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Andrzej Szczęsny Kreutz of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully at the Providence Care Home on Monday, April 25, 2022, at the age of 86 years.

Andrzej Szczęsny Kreutz was born in Cracow, Poland on March 15, 1936. He came from a distinguished family of scholars, but his father died when he was five years old, and he was raised by his mother Maria Joszefa (Pogorelska) Kreutz. He earned a master’s degree at Jagiellonian University in Cracow and lectured in History at the University of Toruń. He and his mother spent several years in Israel then immigrated to Canada in 1974, where he earned a doctorate in Political Science in 1987. He published four academic books on diplomatic relations between the Vatican and Israel and on Russia and the Middle East, as well as dozens of academic papers and book reviews. He was a lecturer at the University of Calgary, Mt. Royal University, and St. Mary’s University.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church (2111 Uxbridge Drive NW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Andrzej's service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
