Eureka Nakai beloved wife of Brian Nakai of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at the age of 52 years after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Born in Calgary, Eureka attended Collingwood School then graduated high school from Seisen International School in Tokyo, Japan. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Botany at the University of Calgary and became a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine after graduating from the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine.
She was a member of the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science, the American College of Foot and Ankle Pediatrics, a student member of the Royal Academy of Dance, an associate member of the American Academy of Podiatric Sport Medicine, a member of the College of Podiatric Physicians of Alberta, Canadian Podiatric Medical Association Professional, Canadian Diabetes Association, an affiliate member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, and a former clinical lecturer for the University of Calgary, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Surgery, Podiatry division.
Eureka accomplished much through her life. For 23 years, she enjoyed her passion as a podiatrist at the Northwest Foot Clinic. She traveled to Mongolia with a group of other doctors with the Christian Medical and Dental Associations in 2014 and 2017 where she taught podiatry in the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences and had the opportunity to work with Mongolian ballet dancers. Her work and words there were a testimony to her faith in Jesus Christ. She enjoyed ballet at the McDonald-Wilson Dance Academy and serving at Sunnyside Camp as Jr girl’s counselor. She also spent time volunteering with St. John Ambulance and as children's church coordinator for the Calgary Japanese Gospel Church/Gracepoint Fellowship.
Eureka ’s favorite vacation spot was Hawaii and was able to spend Christmas 2021 in Maui with her family and friends.
Besides her loving husband, Eureka is survived by her children, son Isaiah Robert Satoshige, and her daughters, Abigail Yuuka, Esther Hina and Bethany Kiyomi; her sister Kay Terashima-Lee, her brother-in-law Hubert Lee; nephew Takumi Lee; niece Izumi Lee and her mother Shigeko Terashima. Eureka was predeceased by her father Satoshi Terashima.
There will be a visitation time at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, May 13, 2022 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at Journey Church (10307 Eamon Road NW, Calgary, AB), on May 14, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the church. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Eureka’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
