Obituary of Jean Vivian Denesuk

April 14, 1932 - May 13, 2022 

Jean Denesuk (née Gibbon), beloved wife of Stan, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, May 13, 2022. 

Jean was born in Edmonton, AB on April 14, 1932. She married Stan Denesuk on February 23, 1963, and later moved to Calgary, AB with Stan, Allison, and Geoff in 1971. Jean returned to complete her high school education in 1984 at the age of 52. She later graduated from the University of Calgary in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts in French. This was one of her proudest moments. Jean inherited a love for music and gardening from her father Matthew, completing Grade 10 in the Royal Conservatory of Music. She enjoyed golfing, skiing, hiking and many trips abroad. Jean was a passionate volunteer in the community, beginning in the late 1940’s with polio patients, and later at her children’s schools, Brownies, the Lion’s Club, and the Alberta Children’s Hospital. She was also very active in the St. Gerard’s Church community, singing in the choir and serving for various ministries. 

Jean will be greatly missed by Stan, her husband of 59 years; daughter, Allison (Joe); son, Geoff (Stephanie); granddaughters, Genevieve (Matt), Madeleine, and Gwendolyn; grandsons, James, Matthew, Austin, and Joshua; sister, Lorette; and her brothers, Bob (Carole) and Ron (Lynne); as well as many nieces and nephews. Jean will be joining her parents, Mulvina, Matthew, and Toni; siblings, Eileen, Jack, Ray, and Paulette; niece, Brenda; and nephew, Rob.

Jean’s family would like to welcome you to celebrate her Funeral Mass at St. Michael Catholic Community (800 – 85th Street S.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday May 26, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. Graveside Service will follow at Eden Brook Cemetery, followed by a reception back at St. Michael Catholic Community.
