Obituary of Joy Elizabeth Trott

January 23, 1923 - Monitor, Alberta

May 17, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

Joy Trott slipped away at Cambridge Manor on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at the age of 99 years.

Joy was born in Monitor, but grew up in Consort and Edmonton, AB. She wanted to be a nurse from an early age and achieved her dream at the Royal Alexander Hospital in Edmonton During the War years. She met and married the love of her life Dr. Alvin Walter John Trott in 1946. Joy and Alvin lived at “the San”, across the Bow River from Bowness Park, for a few years before moving to Golden B.C. where she raised her family and participated in many volunteer initiatives in the community. She loved her kitchen where she made many meals and treats for family visitors and guests. The door was always open. Joy and Al moved to Calgary in their latter years to be closer to family and she made many good friends there.

Joy is survived by her daughters Bonnie Thomas (Glenn), Shawna Edworthy (Steve); her son David Trott (Janette); grandchildren, Garth Thomas, Sonder and Russell Edworthy, Taylor, and Spencer Trott; greatgrandchildren, Evangeline, and Abigail Trott. Joy is also survived by her dear brother-in-law Edward Trott of Edmonton, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Joy was predeceased by her husband Alvin Trott; parents, Donald and Janie MacDonald, brother Oliver (May); sisters, Donna Caswell (Alan), and Reta White (Chuck), as well as her grandson, Chad Thomas.

Joy was a care giver all of her life. It was her greatest pleasure to help others. The family is so thankful to the staff at Brenda Strafford Cambridge Manor for the loving care they gave her in her last years, just what she would have given them if she only could.

A Memorial Service will be held for Joy on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St. David’s United Church (3303 Capital Hill Crescent NW, Calgary, AB). Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Joy’s service, streamed live, (see below) on the day of the service. Joy’s cremated remains will be comingled with Alvin’s and the urn will reside in the Golden Cemetery, Golden, B.C.
