Rupert Roy Otter of TsuuT'ina Nation, AB, passed away peacefully in his home early on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at the age of 92 years. He had the honour of receiving his Indian name from Chief Walking Buffalo (Nakoda Nation).

 

Roy is survived by his children, George (Margaret) Onespot, Sophia Otter, Sharon Deschamps,  Cindy (Clint) Hunter, and Vanessa Otter; sons-in-law, Wayne Deschamps, Ron Deschamps; adopted sons, Lee Roy (Beverly) Meguinis, Melvie (Carmen) Onespot, and Martin (Colleen) Waskewitch; grandchildren, Carson Otter, Guff (Samantha) Otter, Cameron Deschamps, Thomas (Erin) Deschamps, Garth Otter, Narcisse Deschamps, Kaitlyn Deschamps, Tiaerra Deschamps, Ronald (Katherine) Deschamps, Colby Otter Hunter, Coreen Onespot-Rider (Desi), Sonny Onespot, Monica Onespot, Shannon (Stacy) Onespot, and James Onespot; great-grandchildren, Shaymon Otter, Paris Otter, Corbin Otter, Shari Ann Otter, Eileen Otter, Larissa Yellowbird, Kaydence Whitney-Otter, Aspen Whitney-Otter, Price Whitney-Otter and additional great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren whom he loved very much. He is also survived by, the Runner / Crowchild families, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

 

He was predeceased by the mother of his daughters, Barbara Otter; his parents, Oscar and Daisy Otter; siblings, Rosie Runner, Violet Crowchild, Alfred Otter, Roy’s companion, Amber Safter Otter; daughters, Iris Otter and Molly Crop Ear Wolf, grandchildren, Barry Otter, Kaylen Otter, Gloria Anne Otter, Jordan Jr. Otter, and Kristen Deschamps; and great-granddaughter Arizona Whitney-Otter.

 

Thank you, Kirsty, Jan and all the TsuuT'ina Health Centre homecare nurses and Focus on Care for taking such good care of Roy, specifically the past few months. The family would also like to thank the staff at Sarcee 7 Chiefs Sportsplex for being Roy’s second family for all his years at the rink and all his friends (the staff) at his favorite entertainment stop, the Grey Eagle Casino.

 

Roy’s Wake will be held at his residence, 62A Runner Road TsuuT’ina Nation, AB, on Friday, May 27, 2022.

 

Funeral Service will be celebrated at Roy’s House on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
