Obituary of Leon Albert Rey

February 24, 1925 – Bender, Saskatchewan

May 25, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Leon Rey of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at the age of 97 years.

 

Born in Bender, SK, he joined RCAF in January 1943 and graduated as a sergeant Air Gunner and left the service in 1944. Leo joined the Bank of Toronto in Kipling, ON in 1945 and served in various capacities and locations. He was employed as an auditor with the TD bank later becoming manager of the Calgary, North Hill Centre branch. He left the bank in 1969 and became a real estate salesman and manager for several years. He retired in Sturgeon Falls, ON in 1989 where he became a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus in North Bay, ON. Leo spearheaded two lotteries which raised over $40,000.00 to renovate Our Lady of Sorrows church basement, was a Deputy Grand Knight for two years, trustee for six years as well as holding positions of Treasurer and General Secretary.

 

Leon, while living in Sturgeon Falls and North Bay enjoyed dancing at the Golden Age Club and the weekly dances at Marina Point and well into his eighties Leon also enjoyed golfing in the Sturgeon Falls area with his buddies.

 

Leon will be remembered for his positive attitude, his happiness in life and of course his "Aloha" greeting.

 

Leo leaves to mourn his two sons, Stefan Sikora and John (Gayle) Rey of Mono, ON; and three beautiful daughters, Karen Rey of Anchorage, Alaska, Debra (John) Lemme of Calgary, AB, and Jillian Rey of Ecuador, and Calgary, AB; thirteen grandchildren, Nick Waggood, Rhianne Chirstopherson, Mattie Deaton, Jeffrey McFarlane (Kelly), Jason McFarlane (Caroline), Andrew McFarlane Matthew McFarlane, Brett Jaggard, Taylor Rey, Richard Bradley Sikora, Jakub Mieczyslaw Sikora, Angelika Barbara Sikora; and six great-grandchildren, Tristan Waggood, Caleb Waggood, Haakon Christopherson, Trond Christopherson, Peyton McFarlane, Jackson McFarlane. In his later years Leon was fortunate to have one last great love - Terry Dwyer (deceased). He was also predeceased by his parents, Marie and Albert Rey; two brothers, Raymond Rey and Edmund Rey; and two sisters, Ida Thompson and Aline Warner.

 

Those wishing to pay their respects a private visitation will be held on Sunday, May 29, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to join Mr. Rey’s viewing streamed live on the day of the visitation(see below) on the day of the service. The family would like to thank Dr. Ewa, the nurses, aides and other staff at Colonel Belcher for all their assistance through this difficult time.
