Obituary of David John Smith

January 18, 1956 – Kentville, Nova Scotia 
May 26, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

David Smith beloved husband of Anne Smith  (nee McTague) of Calgary, AB passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at the age of 66 years.

David was born in Kentville, Nova Scotia on January 18, 1956. He joined the Army in 1979 and married ‘His Love’, Anne (nee McTague) on July 26, 1980. Dave had tours to Cyprus, Germany, and Bosnia. He was a Strat and proud of it! He finished his honourable and respectable career, as an MWO. Throughout his career and life, Dave was a confident example for the troops, a guiding light for officers and ‘set the pace’ by leading from the front. He had big shoulders and a bigger heart. Once retired, he established The Ranch for his loved ones, volunteered at the Military Museums, kept an active social life online and more in person recently with his motorbike. Dave would thoughtfully consider his Cuban friends when travelling; he always would bring them ‘useful things’. Dave will be best remembered for his sense of humour and generosity. He enjoyed fishing, camping on his land, and connecting with all kinds of people everywhere he went. Although his career and influence were far-reaching, his greatest pride was his son Patrick Smith. 

David is survived by his loving wife, Anne nee (McTague) in Calgary, AB. David was predeceased by his beloved son, Patrick Smith. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) in the Hospitality Centre on Saturday, July 2, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
