Condolences
Somehow I missed hearing about the passing of Betty. I was in Vancouver when she died. I just heard this morning from Gerry Scharff. I too served on the Education and Students Committee. Betty was a warm and caring person, leaving whomever she was talking to feeling pretty special. She handled the Chairmanship of that committee with excellence, tending to every detail while still embracing us all. I’m sure that wonderful gift of engaging carried over into all aspects of her life. We had much in common: born in Ontario, Toronto nurses, 1958, love of the UC, sons…..She always marvelled at all that.
The last time I saw her was at Bill’s funeral. Covid prevented our getting together. Regrettably my loss.
I send you all, the family, my deepest sympathy. Youhad 2 pretty special parents.
I think we were new grads from dental school but for whatever reason we had gathered together at Rods parents house. Betty came into the kitchen to say hello and welcome us. I don’t remember what was said but I still have that warm feeling that I could show up in the middle of the night and she would make me a snack and tuck me in on the couch if I needed it. A safe harbour. She was a lovely woman. Jodi and Rob
I was sad to learn of Betty's death. She will be missed. Betty and I served for many years on Education and Students for Calgary Presbytery for the United Church. I valued her insight and also organization. Also my husband and I used to ride our bikes by their house and see Betty and Bill working in their front garden. The hill in front of their house was a tough one. for us so we looked forward to their smiling faces. I will keep your family in our prayers.
