Obituary of Muriel Kathleen Holberton (nee King)


June 4, 1927 - New Carlisle, Quebec

May 26, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

 

Muriel Holberton, beloved wife of Sydney Holberton, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at the age of 94 years.

 

Muriel was born in New Carlisle, Quebec on June 4, 1927, and had a very happy childhood as a minister’s daughter in New Brunswick.

 

Muriel was a teacher for two years before enrolling at St. John General Hospital to study nursing. After graduation she moved to Lethbridge to be close to her brother and his family. There she met and married Syd on April 25, 1953. After having three children, they moved to Calgary in 1966.

 

She was a member of the Woodcliff United Church where she was very active in Sunday School, CGIT, Pathfinders and Couples Club. She was very involved with Toastmistress and enjoyed learning how to speak in public. Muriel worked with Syd in their hearing aid business for 25 years and she was an excellent audiologist. They enjoyed travelling and visited over 30 countries.

 

Muriel was devoted to family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Rev. A.T. and Annie King; brothers, Rev. Bert King and Ernest King; and sisters-in-law, Ethel and Glenna. She is survived by her husband of 69 years; sons, Jim (Kellie) and Ron (Mary Jane); daughter Gwen Wright; four grandchildren, Daniel Holberton, Candice (Mike) McGinnis, Pamela (Denys) Grombacher, and Stuart Wright; and two great grandchildren, Ida and Ned Grombacher.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held at Woodcliff United Church (5010 Spruce Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 2:00 pm. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
