Condolences
Sending my deepest condolences! I will never forget Budge he was such an inspiration. I think I told him numerous times I want to be like him when I grow up. Every time I’d see him he was smiling and would have a great story to share. Such a joy to be his dental hygienist all years!!!
Sending my love and prayers to the family. I felt honoured to be able to smile, laugh and cry with you today. The service was so touching. The pictures and stories so heart felt. They were so lovely to see. Love to all. Heather Bouchard-Ritch

Carol and family,
My sincere sympathy on your loss. Budge was always nice and friendly. He was a delight to follow down the ski hill. He was admired and respected by all and will be missed.

Dear Auntie Carol, Cousins Joanne, Gary , Paul , Melissa and Kate.
I am so saddened with the news that Uncle Budge has passed away. I am so glad that I did get to meet him twice when you all come over to New Zealand, once at Nana and Grandad Burrows's house in Rotorua, and once when you came to Napier( that was a very rushed hello)!! Even when one is unwell it never prepares you once they are gone. I will miss his yearly Christmas Letters, letting us all know the adventures that the Burrows family had of that year, and what he may of been looking forward with the coming year.
My heart goes out to you all, even though we live miles apart you are never far from my thoughts .
Biggest Hugs to you all xx
Lots of Love From Katrina & Nathan Berry xxx
My deepest condolences to Carol and family on the loss of your husband/father/grandfather. I really enjoyed skiing with Budge and Carol on numerous Seniors Alpine Ski Club trips. I appreciated any advice Budge would offer to help me improve my skiing.. One day I complained that my skis weren't gliding well and Budge asked me if I had waxed my skis. Even after years of skiing, I hadn't known about waxing skis after each use. He took the time to then wax my skis and ever since I've been following his advice. So each time I finish skiing and wax my skis, I think of Budge. I know he will really be missed by all of us in the ski club.
My sincerest condolences Carol and family.
Best regards Anne Joiner (Bob Kotte's sister and Barb Kotte's Sister-in-law)
My sincerest condolences Carol and family, I was always made welcome and entertained in your home, and Budges shepherds pie has a place of honour in my cookbook!!
Regards Carol Jeske
So sorry to hear of the passing of my FAVOURITE TEACHER from back in Grade 6 at Andrew Davison School. Mr. Burrows was such an incredible influence on me and will always be my fav!! Perhaps he is a big reason why I became a teacher.
So now you all know the answer to one of my security questions…” Favourite teacher”??…. Mr. Burrows of course.
Rest In Peace.
So sorry to hear about dear friend Budge. Sending condolences to Carol, Paul and Melissa, and Joanne and Gary. Budge and Carol were our wonderful neighbors for 15 years. Many evenings with happy hours on one or the others decks, camping trips, skiing ( and Budge and I colliding) on the hill and Panorama escapes! Lol Budge and Carol were renowned for teacher end of year parties at their residence. One year a water cannon fight broke out with everyone getting drenched. Loved to sing by the campfire and I loved to sing along with all of Budges “dirty ditties”! In the winter, Budge would shovel a walkway through the snow to each other’s front door. In the summer, he would cut our grass for us! He will be sorely missed! Such an awesome guy! Hope Bob and you are enjoying your camping up there! Rest In Peace my friend.
Carol: My condolences and sympathy on the loss of Budge. I fondly remember his guitar playing, skiing and volunteering with the Ski Patrol. Some of the songs he sang will always be remembered as will he.

Dear Carol, Joanne and Paul,
I had the good fortune to have known Budge both as a colleague and as a parent of one of my students, Paul. Budge was knowledgeable, supportive, thoughtful and caring in both roles. I appreciated his wisdom on many occasions, always presented with humility. I enjoyed working with Paul, a bright and energetic student. I was a member of the French Immersion Principal Group and Budge was frequently called upon to bring calm and reason to the discussion, which he did, always in a respectful manner.
From my vantage point now, 84 is young. I am so sorry for your loss. I know Budge will be missed by many.
Take good care of yourselves and each other.
Sincerely,
Marlene Nelson
Mrs. Burrows, Joanne, Paul, and family, thank you for sharing Mr. Burrows with so many of us and I am sorry for your loss. I was fortunate to have crossed paths with him for a large portion of my life. As a student at Westgate I LOVED his sing-a-longs . He had a way of making each student feel they belonged. A few years down the road my mom Raye worked with him at Westgate and Varsity. Then came time in band with Joanne and Paul. I am surely not alone in saying that Mr. Burrows made a positive and lasting impact on my life (including my career in education). Time to dig up our copy of "Amanda Requests a Sing-a-long" CD and reminisce.
Mr. Burrows (I just can't bring myself to call him by his first name, even 35 years later!) was my principal at Westgate in the 80's, and was one of the greatest educators I've ever come in contact with.
He had an innate ability to connect with every student who entered his school, and regardless of how many kids passed through his day, managed to make every single one of us feel special. He instilled a love of music in all of us, and every time I hear a ukulele, I think of him.
He was a great person, and he will live on in the hearts of all the children who passed his way, many of whom have gone on to sing his songs with our own kids.He will be missed.
"I first met Budge in the mid 60's at Happy Valley where we were ski instructors and lifeguards at the 2 amazing pools in the summers. He introduced me to Heather Wilson, Carols nursing classmate from Montreal who became my wife and life partner in 1972. Budge and Carol have our closest lifelong friends spending time together skiing, camping and together at our summer place in Sicamous B.C since the the mid 80's. When I came to Calgary while traveling or with Heather we had our own bedroom and always stayed with them. Carol was happy as we could share a meal of seafood and Budge was also because he didn't have to eat those "smelly awful" things and had steak!!. We will miss him greatly, but will be eternally grateful to of had him as such an integral part of our life and his phone answering voice saying " Hollywood Home for Wayward Girls" Love you Budge!! Heather and Mur!"
Budge first came into my life as the principal at Westgate where I taught. He was such a strong leader and so supportive of his staff and students. I learned a lot from him. I remember him giving me pointers on the ski hill as well. After leaving our positions at Westgate we kept in touch over the years, often sharing humour via email and it was always a treat to bump into Carol and Budge and quickly catch up on each other's lives. Budge made a positive difference in life and will be missed but not forgotten.
Carol and Family. Budge will be missed. I taught at Paskapoo with Budge for many years. He was so fun to teach with. He could dance on his skis and we all tried to dance like Budge but only he could do it well. Budge I hope you are dancing in the powder.

Dear Carol and family,
Sadly I have been unable to phone you to express my grief and intense sadness at the circumstances and news of dear Budge's passing. Due to the timing and distance I will be unable to attend June 4th. My thoughts however will be with you on the day.
I retain great memories of my years in Canada, sharing great times with you both, socially and on your magnificent ski slopes. In particular remembering VW camper travels with Budge through Western Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, Eastern Europe.
May our Budge, my great friend and "Cobber", rest in eternal peace.

To the family of Budge Burrows - You must know what an impact Mr Burrows had on many of his students at Westgate Elementary. We all seem to have a specific, and different, memory of something he taught us that shaped our lives forever. For some it was music and ukuleles, for others it was sports and team work! He gave us a remarkable start to our education and we are all better for it. Rest In Peace Mr. Burrows, you will be remembered fondly
I had the great pleasure to teach skiing with Budge at COP.
He was always working to be the best he could be.
I always enjoyed lots of laughs and fun with Budge.
My condolences.

I met Budge while working at Happy Valley years ago. We visited many times as our paths crossed throughout the years, socially or in the educational field. He was always positive, cheerful and inspirational. His sense of humour was infectious and always left me laughing. My heartfelt sympathies to Carol and the family.

I met Budge in 1977 when he had just moved from Lake Louise to Sunshine Village Ski Patrol. Budge was a long time contributor to the CSPS and I was a raw rookie. We became friends and following a particularly satirical skit at the windup party that I had written and Budge participated in, Norm Bellamy approached us to put on a radio show on CHQR titled the Ski Patrol Report; every Wednesday as part of the 6 PM news. Thus began a long and close relationship where every Tuesday afternoon Budge and I went to the CHQR studio and recorded a 3 minute dialogue we had written about all things skiing – The “Budge and Doug Ski Patrol Report – Skiing from a little different point of view”. This went on for some 5 years and even survived my career move to Regina, SK. I travelled to Calgary often enough we could actually continue to do the show. One feature of the show happened before it started. Our recorder, CHQR ‘s Dave Maller asked us each for a short sound byte to test the recording equipment. Budge and I for some reason chose to each use a somewhat naughty limerick to test the equipment – you know, “there was an old man from….” Couldn’t believe how many of these each of us knew – and all different. I always worried they might get on the air by accident, but Dave wasn’t concerned. Sorry, no quotes here!
Soon Budge, Carol and our families were doing things together outside of ski patrol. One evening Carol and Budge came for dinner at our home – when we opened the door there stood Budge and Carol looking quite embarrassed, , with two extremely upset, crying kids – they had told the children they were going to Macdonald’s for dinner, and the kids made the natural assumption that it was Ronald McDonald’s for burgers, not Sue and Doug Macdonald’s home!
I have to admit that I had passed my first patrol ski test by the skin of my teeth, and that I seriously needed help in ski improvement. Budge, along with several other SSV patrollers, took it upon themselves to help me and I am forever indebted to Budge and the others for making me the half-decent skier I am today. Budge was also a mentor and an example for me about how to contribute to the CSPS. Any of my awards and achievements in the CSPS are in no small part due to Budge’s influence and support.
While those years close to Budge and family are in the past, I have never forgotten Budge’s contributions to my life.
In the words of Canadian Folksinger Ian Tyson from his song “These Friends of Mine”:
“…by all these roads, my friend, we’ve travelled down, I’m a better man for just the knowin’ of you”.
Farewell, Budge, and Godspeed.

My wife and I arrived in Calgary in 1970 and met Budge when we joined the volunteer Ski patrol. Budge introduced us to his many friends on the Patrol and was always on hand to make sure we were ok. We really enjoyed the crazy weekends with the Smokey Lake Racing Team of which Budge was a founding member .... fun times and many great memories. When we returned to Australia in 1973, Budge kept in touch and kept up to date with the local happenings.
Our memories of his generous and fun loving spirit will live on with us.
We will miss him.

Barb and Ken Stevenson have lost a very dear friend - Budge Burrows. Our friendship began through the Seniors Alpine Ski Club in Calgary 18 years ago. We served on the ski clubs executive with Budge and as Hosts on numerous ski trips which Budge and Carol were our constant companions. Budge spent many hours teaching Ken to ski.
In return, Ken introduced Budge to fly fishing. We had so many wonderful social gatherings at our homes and with friends camping in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park.
Around our camp fires we all sang as Budge played his guitar.
Our smaller group of skiers so enjoyed our two night trips to Sunshine Village. Budge was our constant companion with Carol at his side. We will miss Budge so very much.
Much love. Ken and Barb.
