Obituary of Edna May Sanders
October 30, 1926 – Alsask, Saskatchewan
May 30, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta
Edna Sanders (nee Davies), passed away peacefully on Monday, May 30, 2022, at the age of 95 years.
Edna was born on October 30, 1926, in Alsask, SK, to Hugh and Margaret Davies. Raised on the farm in Sibbald, AB, she moved to Calgary in 1942 and worked at the income tax office. She married Thomas Sanders in 1950 and together raised a family of four, eventually growing to include seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Edna supported Tom’s business and managed the home office. She enjoyed music, dancing, cards, camping, and being with her family and many dear friends. Sitting beside her at church, gave one a real appreciation for perfect pitch harmony. She was an early member of the Rosscarrock Church of Christ and was involved in many church activities including the very popular annual tea and bazaar. The community Sewing Circle also kept Edna busy with knitting, embroidery, and weekly meetings where percolated coffee and cheese buns were a popular staple with the ladies. Together with Tom, she was a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels for over twenty years.
Edna was predeceased by Tom in 2005. Edna was fortunate to have her sister, and best friend Edith Earl throughout her life until Aunt Edie’s passing in 2020 at 100 years young.
Thank you to the staff at Chartwell’s Eau Claire and Fountains of Mission residences. Respecting Edna’s wishes, the family will hold a private service. However, a Celebration of Edna’s Life will be held, and details will be announced soon.
