Dear Martha,
Dom, Lottie,Calum and I are so very sorry for your loss of Hans. We would like to surround you, and your family, with love and compassion.
We remember when we first met you and Hans- our new neighbours- who welcomed us with open arms.
Hans was such a joy to know and we all enjoyed his stories of his life growing up, his move to Canada, how you hitch- hiked across the country, and his varied work places.
Hans always seemed to enjoy being active, from cycling to cross- country skiing in our neighbourhood and always gave a big wave and a ready smile when we passed by; his energy and vigor was something to behold and we always said that we hoped to have just half of his energy and enthusiasm for being active outside.
Hans was always so interested in our renovations and would pop over the fence to offer help or just to see what was going on. He'd stop for a cup.of tea and a chat, then suddenly mention that Martha was waiting for him and he'd be in trouble if he didn't go home!
Hans also showed great interest in the lives of his younger neighbours, our children Lottie and Calum, who enjoyed listening to Hans' stories of his many adventures: He sent over some millwright books when he learned that Calum was going into the same profession as his, and he shared stories of wildlife encounters and hiking trips with Lottie- Hans and Martha taking them both hiking and having a bear encounter along the way!
Hans was always so calm, quiet and kind- a truly gentle soul. He is missed dearly and we hope he is resting in peace, as he certainly deserves it.
God bless you Martha, and may you, and your family be surrounded in love and light through this difficult time.
Much love,
Joce,Dom,Lottie and Calum.
Jo and I offer our sincere sympathy at the passing of Hans. May you find comfort with your family at this difficult time. You had a wonderful life together and treasured memories to hold dear to your heart.

Oh, Martha, I am so very, very saddened to learn of Hans’ passing. He was such a kind, gentle person, and you were a devoured couple, an inspiration to all. My prayers and sympathies for you and your family.

Hans was adventurous, creative and generous with his time and talents. He genuinely enjoyed the company of others. His courage in facing the challenges of age and illness was an inspiration to all of us. You will be missed, my friend! You left the world a better place.
