Obituary of Rita Frieda Kuss

Rita Kuss of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022, at the age of 74 years.

Rita was born in Bad Zwischenahn, Germany. She immigrated to Canada with her husband and three children in 1977. Her move to Canada was a new beginning. Rita was a decorator and designer by trade. She completed her apprenticeship in Bad Zwischenahn and when she moved to Canada she worked for Sears, Calgary. She was passionate about design details and created spaces that were functional and welcoming. Rita was an avid gardener and loved plants and flowers. She was well-known by her friends in the Queensland Gardening Club and community members for her annual petunia flower boxes, her impressive and precious pink rose blooms and her beautiful landscaping at her home. Rita loved to travel, and she visited Germany often to see family. She loved to cook and shared her creative and delicious cooking creations with guests whenever she could and enjoyed entertaining very much. Rita was an animal lover and had many cats over the years, including Louie, now in Germany.

Rita was a loving and very caring mother to her three children. She was always willing to support them and lend a helping hand whenever they needed it. Her greatest gift was to her eldest son, Stephan, who passed away in 2020, after several years with multiple sclerosis. She advocated and cared for Stephan’s needs relentlessly, and her selflessness was respected by all.
 

Rita is survived by her son Matthias Kuss and his wife Alison, and her daughter Yvonne Slough-Kuss and her husband Christopher.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway
(Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life to follow at Rita’s home. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Rita's service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. Rita will return to Germany after the Service in Canada to be laid to rest near her sister and father. Rita’s life will also be celebrated with her family in Germany this fall. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
