Obituary of Shirley Grace Grace
March 8, 1936 - Edmonton, Alberta
June 5, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear Mother Shirley Grace Grace. Dementia took her from us, but she will always be fondly remembered as an amazing lady.
Shirley was many things, a devoted wife and mother, a big sister, a fun cousin, a special aunt, and beloved grandmother. Shirley graduated in 1958 from the University of Alberta in Nursing as a Registered Nurse. As well, Shirley was an avid tennis player, golfer, hiker, skier, boater, rancher, life master bridge player, and so much more. Shirley grew up in Edmonton, AB, where she met and married her high school sweetheart Don. Shirley and Don raised their family in Calgary, AB, and in later years moved to Saanichton, BC, to build their dream home and enjoy the west coast lifestyle.
We will treasure our memories of summers spent at mom's favourite spot, Gull Lake, where she shared her love of playing cards and the game of crib with all her children and grandchildren. We will smile when we remember her sharing her culinary delicacies at our Heel Creek Ranch brandings and when we think of the many fun adventures shared with Mom and Dad on their boat Iambe.
Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband Don in 2016. She was also predeceased by her parents, Theodore and Theodora “Dora” Williams, and her siblings Ron, Diane and Ted. She is survived by her four children, Sandy (David), Cameron (Janis), Susan (Chris), and David (Kim). Shirley is also survived by her grandchildren, Robert (Carley), Sarah (Jonah), Leah (Will), Margie, Duncan, Alexander and Owen. She will also be missed by her siblings Dennis (Fay) of Parksville, BC, Judy (Charlie) of Edmonton, AB, and cousins, nieces, and nephews in Alberta, BC, and the NWT.
The family would like to express our gratitude to the staff at Staywell Manor for caring for our mother. Shirley was the foundation of the Grace clan, gentle and kind, friend to so many and life of the party. Shirley will be greatly missed, and we will all cherish our fond memories of her. In lieu of flowers please consider contributing to the Alzheimer Society.
