Macy Boyce

Obituary of Macy Michelle Boyce

December 18, 2001 – Calgary, Alberta

June 17, 2022 – Trochu, Alberta

On Friday June 17, 2022, our beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend, Macy Michelle Boyce was taken from us far too soon at the age of 20 years. Our family is comforted that she was not alone and shares with sorrow, that she left this world with the love of her life and boyfriend of three years, Ethan Halford. We lend strength to Ethan's family through this unimaginably tragic loss, as they have done for us.

Macy was an ambitious and intelligent young woman who was looking forward to starting her fourth year at the University of Calgary, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations. Macy's maturity and sense of personal responsibility were due in part to her participation in Police Cadets; she aged out of the program in 2019 with the rank of Sergeant. An avid traveller who eagerly sought out new experiences, cities, and cultures, she was making plans to go abroad to practice her French bilingualism. An advocate for women's rights, animal welfare, and social justice, Macy was known for speaking out for causes she believed in. Macy loved her family and friends fiercely, and always offered a hand of help to those in need. She was funny, outgoing, and vibrant, but those who knew her best recognized that she was also reflective and thoughtful. We will remember her big laugh, sharp wit, brilliant smile, striking eyes, and caring nature. Macy will be deeply missed by all lucky to have known her.

To remember Macy, listen to her favourite singer Harry Styles, or watch her favourite movie Spider-Man: No Way Home, while enjoying her favourite candies, HiChews or Sour Soothers. To honour Macy's memory, celebrate the good times you had with her, and follow her example of living life to the fullest.

Macy leaves behind her parents, Corey MacPherson and Andrew Boyce, her brother Evan; grandparents Gloria and Tony Boyce, Kay Griffiths; aunties Victoria, (Korey) Stacey (John) Erin (Kenton) Colleen (Dave), and Jennifer (Perry) , uncle Craig (Tammy), and cousins Mandy, Megan, Braiden, Carson, Quinn, Kris, Kelly, Elliot, Weston, Ryan and Lyla; family in England, and many close friends whom she loved like family.

Macy was preceded in death by her loving grandparents Papa and Grandma MacPherson.

A joint celebration of life will be held with the family and friends of her love, Ethan Halford, at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Family and friends who cannot attend in person are invited to join the service streamed live on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Macy's name to one of her favourite causes:

JDRF – Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research whose exclusive focus and singular influence on the worldwide effort to end T1D. Macy's brother, Evan, was diagnosed with diabetes at age 5. Macy was a key support in his life and was an advocate for continued research and funding in the quest for a cure.

Canadian Women’s Foundation

Canadian Women’s Foundation creates powerful ways to have an impact on the lives of diverse women, girls, and gender-diverse people throughout Canada. Macy believed in supporting these essential community-based supports that help women, girls and gender-diverse people facing poverty, violence, discrimination and other forms of inequality.

Seniors Secret Service

Since 1985, Seniors Secret Services has enhanced the quality of life for individuals 60 years or older who are alone or isolated in the community. The organization aligns with community members to help them feel special and cared for on important holidays and birthdays, and to provide essential items they cannot provide for themselves. A cherished tradition with her mother, Macy and Corey would joyfully celebrate the season by playing Secret Santa together.

In living memory of Macy Boyce, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
