So I’m just going to say thanks Don for sharing your wisdom, your passions and your friendship and I know I’m not alone in saying you will be greatly missed.

Our sincere condolences to Stella and family on Don's passing. I got to know Don in the 1960's when we both worked at Shell and we've been friends ever since. The three priorities that I know Don had were Family, a great party and hunting and fishing. I knew all the members the big game hunting group that Don belonged to and he was the last surviving member. He was predeceased by Norm, Borden and Wayne. Don was truly a great guy and friend and will be missed.
Stella and family:
Sorry to learn of the loss of Don. He was a very accomplished geologist and a fabulous outdoorsman. I have fond memories of fishing the streams in the Elk River drainages and hiking into Connor Lake with Don and Bob Evans.
We are sorry to hear about Don’s passing. As cousins, we spent many enjoyable times together over the years and we will always keep him in our memories.
Don was a very generous, kind and caring person who loved his extended family. He shared a love of fishing with our late father, Gus, and often took dad out fishing.
He had a wonderful sense of humour, was a great listener and was curious about everything. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

I have known and been friends with Don and Stella for many years.
Cherish all your wonderful memories.
God Bless.

Tribute to Uncle Don So many great memories with Uncle Don Basso. Such a inspiring man who always cared and had time for myself and many others. Talk about a man with honour and integrity, you always knew how to make me feel good about myself. I will always remember you sitting on the couch at 7 Grandin Place with a book, enjoying a cigarette while watching a sports event on tv with us all. Classic Don Basso ! Very interested in whatever I was doing and always positive and encouraging. I am forever grateful to you for how you always treated me, my wife Sheri and our children Nicholas and Grace so very well,You were truly one of a kind ! I feel that we have some unfinished business you and I to discuss , you know like a ball game. So I really hope that somewhere, somehow I can see you again Uncle Don, maybe in the Field of Dreams. But for now Rest In Peace my good friend because I know in my heart that you are in a better place. I will never forget you, till we meet again ! Peter Tworek
I had the great pleasure of working with Don for may years. He was a great geologist, a great co-worker and an outstanding mentor to all that worked for him. We shared many laughs over the years and I think of him as a great friend to this day. He was a terrific friend. I know from the many conversations we had how much he loved his wife and family. Don will be missed tremendously by everyone who knew him, but everyone who knew him is a better person today because of him. Travel well my friend, God speed.
Honestly, I'm not sure what to say as I am in great shock to hear the very sad news of the passing of Mr. Basso. I was just visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Basso about a month ago and no matter how much time has passed between visits, they always make you feel welcome. I am truly sorry for your loss Mrs. Basso, Ann, Joe and Bobbie.
Mr. Basso met my father in the early 70's and together with a handful of others helped get Bowridge Little League Baseball started. The two of them coached with and against each other watching our families grow into our teenage years and the two of them formed a freindship that would last through the years and remain until this day. Not only did Mr. Basso teach many kids how to play baseball, he always made every kid feel like they belonged. He dedicated his spare time to dragging and raking the ball field so that all of the kids had a nice field to play on.
One of my best memories of Mr. Basso is when I was about 9 years old and my favorite team was the Los Angeles Dodgers. He stopped by the house one day after he got back from a trip and brought me a Dodgers ball cap and hats for my brothers of their favorite teams as well.
Mr. Basso was a very kind, caring, wise, gentle and giving man that everytime I saw him, no matter the day I was having, his presence and kind words always made me feel better. Mr. Basso was a man I truly respected and admired my whole life and I will forever treasure the moments I was able to spend with him.
The world lost a great man who's personality and caring heart left a huge impact on everyone that ever knew him. Mrs. Basso, Ann, Joe and Bobbie, I am so sorry for your loss.

I just cannot believe he is gone! Don was always available for all his friends...and then when his friends were gone, he was available to make sure that hs friends widows were "all right". If any of his friends or family were sick, or disabled, he made sure they were looked after and never forgotten. He was so good to his sister, Donna when she lost her husband (so young) and then went on to help guide and care for his nieces and nephews. There is so much good to say about Don. What are we going to do without him? He was a "prince of a man". How lucky we all were to have him for a friend.
Stella, Bobbi, Annie and Joe: please be comforted by how much he cared for you...and how proud he was of all of you.

One could not ask for a better friend than Don. I remember with gratitude more than fifty years of great conversation, shared books, and full days on the Oldman River, where his flies always somehow seemed more attractive to the trout than mine. A fine man, a great fisherman, a knowledgeable geologist and a true friend--we will greatly miss him.
