Obituary of Donald Valentino Basso
June 18, 1937 - Cadomin, Alberta
June 21, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta
Don Basso passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, in Calgary at the age of 85 years.
He was born in the mountain town of Cadomin, AB, and welcomed by his parents, older sister, and many aunts and uncles. In 1952, he moved to Wabamun and met Stella at Seba Beach High School. He graduated from U of A with a BSc in Geology in 1959 and began a life-long career as a Geologist in the petroleum industry. Don married Stella (nee Mashtaler) in 1965, and they raised their family in Calgary. Family, friends, fishing, hunting, sports, and reading were Don’s passions, and he was part of so many people's lives!
He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Stella, his three children, Anne Carol (Darcy), Joe (Pam), and Bobbie (Andrew); his six grandchildren, Todd, Miranda, Piper, Paige, Justin, and Ethan; his sister Donna Coldham, and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of The Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB), on Friday, July 15, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Don’s life will follow.
