Louella Lee Skogberg (neé Lewandoski), of Calgary, AB, passed away on June 22, 2022, at Foothills Country Hospice, Okotoks at the age of 67. 

 

Louella was born in Saskatoon on February 8, 1955, to Elizabeth and Stanley Lewandoski. She attended school in Alvena and Cudworth followed by attending the University of Saskatchewan. Louella worked for The Co-operators from 1975 to her retirement in 2015 in Regina & Calgary. She held many roles at The Co-operators and retired as Project Manager in Calgary. While working and raising three wonderful children, Louella achieved many professional designations including her Chartered Insurance Professional designation. 

 

Louella is survived by her husband Gary, of Calgary and children, Leif (Laura Roßbach) of Daaden, Germany, Jenna of Calgary, and Lara Anders (Mitchell) of Leduc, and their three wonderful children, Smith, Bria and Jillian, all of whom Louella loved to do crafts, play, and bake with. She is also survived by her mother, Elizabeth Lewandoski; as well as her siblings, Lorie Gale, Lyle, Lois Popoff (Peter), Leslie (Etsyo), Linda Utas (Don) and Lila (Mike Schaap); as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Louella was preceded in death by her father, Stanley in 1980 and brother, Leonard in 2020.

 

She thrived in celebrating all traditions, occasions and special events with her family, Louella was the master organizer. Vacationing, cooking, picnicking, shopping, singing, dancing, gardening, and playing games were some of the activities that Louella and her family loved to do together.

 

Louella valued connection and friendships and was a part of many communities throughout her life. In Regina and Calgary, she was a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi where she formed lifelong friendships with her sorority sisters. Louella formed an informal group in Calgary affectionately known as the “Mag 6” which was a group of friends who met regularly and celebrated milestones and travelled together. While employed with The Co-operators, Louella’s legacy was in the co-creation of Volunteers in Action - a national committee whose mandate is to empower employees to support charitable causes and engage in volunteerism.

 

Louella was an avid curler and golfer for most of her life. Whatever team or community she joined, Louella formed close and lifelong friendships. She leaves behind close friends across Canada, from Moncton, NB to BC’s Sunshine Coast. She will be missed by all who knew and met her. 

 

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 Bannister Road, Calgary, AB) on Monday, June 27, 2022, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

 

A public funeral service and reception will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 Bannister Road, Calgary, AB) on June 29th at 3:00 p.m.
