Obituary of Alan Austin Nixon

June 30, 1942 - Calgary, Alberta

June 22, 2022 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that we announce our family unexpectedly lost our MVP. Alan Nixon, beloved husband of Ruth Nixon (nee Beebe), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at the age of 79 years.

Alan married Ruth, his life partner, wife and best friend in 1964.

Besides his loving wife Ruth, Alan is survived by his sons, Jay (Anita) and Lance; his granddaughters, Kayla (Lucas) and Tatum (Mark), and great-granddaughter Kora. Alan is also survived by his sister Lillian, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Austin and Eva Nixon.

Alan graduated from the University of Calgary with an Education Degree in 1972 and spent 29 years working for the Calgary Board of Education, as a teacher and assistant principal. After retiring from his teaching career in 2001, he enjoyed spending time on his son’s acreage during haying season, playing hockey, curling and vacationing at the family cabin on Shuswap Lake.

Alan was particularly proud of his family and loved to share stories of their experiences and accomplishments. Tatum and Kayla were his biggest joys. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for them. Traveling, time spent at the cabin, watching their sports - he was engaged in all that they did and was their biggest cheerleader.

We will miss his unconditional kindness, endless storytelling, generosity, and the love and admiration he had for his family. If everyone could be so lucky to have a Papa on their team, the world would be a better place.
