Urban Dumais

Obituary of Urban Gerald Dumais

April 10, 1943 – Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan

June 27, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

Urban Dumais beloved husband of Anne Dumais (nee Shaw) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022, at the age of 79 years after a brief illness.

Urban was born in Willow Bunch, SK on April 10, 1943 to John and Elizabeth Dumais (predeceased).   His family moved to Crowsnest Pass, AB where his dad worked in the coal mines until they relocated to Midnapore in 1955.  It was here he spent his formative years going to school, enjoying life, terrorizing his siblings, Don (Brenda) and Deborah, and sacrificing his spleen to his pursuit of rodeo.

Urban married Bonnie in 1967 and they had two kids, Duane (Amy Mae) and Sheri (Scott Kerby).  It was during this time that Urban worked as a welder, but his love of the great outdoors was his passion, camping, fishing, hunting and his horse, Chinook.   He passed this love of the outdoors (minus hunting…of course) onto his kids and later his grandkids (Travis, Kassidy, Dexter, Tanner and Christopher) whom he adored.  Another great love of Urban’s over the years were his cats!

In 1999, after several years of being single, Urban met and married Anne and gained a stepdaughter in Irlene (Robert) Pierce.  Urban met Anne at the Fraternal Order of Eagles where they both enjoyed darts, curling, many club trips and a cold beer.  The ‘Club’ was a big part of Urban’s life throughout the years, and he was a golden member. Urban also continued to enjoy the outdoors, purchasing a camper van with Anne and putting it to good use.  In his most recent years, he enjoyed a relaxing drive in the country and following in his talented mom’s footsteps, picked up painting.

A Celebration of Urban’s Life will be held at the Fraternal Order of Eagles (9303 5 Street S.E., Calgary, AB) on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 2:00 pm. Reception to follow.  Urban liked his cowboy hat and boots so in the spirit of Stampede, feel free to wear your western duds. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

In living memory of Urban Dumais, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, Ab t2x 3j3, Telephone: 403-256-9575
