Obituary of Rita Shih Ying-O Fong 施應萼
January 7, 1929 – Nantong, Jiangsu, China
June 27, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta
Rita Ying-O Shih Fong, beloved wife of the Late George Fong, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022, at the age of 93 years, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Nantong, Jiangsu Province, China on January 7, 1929, Rita was the youngest daughter of nine children. In 1947, after attending Nantong Girls High School, Rita moved to Taipei, Taiwan with her family. In 1953, she married George Ko-Chia Fong and together, they raised four wonderful daughters. Rita worked at the Taiwan Sugar Corporation for 30 years and in 1977, following George’s work transfer, they immigrated as a family to Calgary, AB, Canada. After 66 years together, Rita’s beloved husband, George, passed away in 2019.
Rita is survived by: four daughters and sons-in-law, Grace (Tim) Wu, of Fremont, California, Helen (Jerry) Shaw, of Calgary, Alberta, Beverly (Steve Fogarasi) Fong, of Pawling, New York and Margaret (John Ling) Fong, of San Jose, California; seven grandchildren, Austin (Diane Diem Nguyen) Wu, Charlene (Bram Hanono) Wu, Roger (Josephine Carlos) Shaw, Eileen Shaw, Dylan Ling, Magdalene Fogarasi, and Alexander Fogarasi; six great-grandchildren, Allison and Brixton Wu, Linus and Odette Hanono-Wu, and Olivia and Owen Shaw; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
