Obituary of John (Ed) Whitaker

March 19, 1928 – July 29, 2022 

Ed Whitaker of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022 at the age of 94 years. 

Up until early July, he remained mobile and eager to journey out for a drive, ginger cookie, and Starbucks Latte. Ed was a Chartered Accountant and competently completed his annual tax return up to the age of 90. He was known for his sharp business acumen, quick wit, sense of humour, relaxed manner, and ever-present cheerfulness.

Ed is predeceased by his beloved wife, Elaine. They shared 66 beautiful years. Together they raised three children who reflect their parents love, Wendy Cartwright (Gordon), Carol Mortimer (Don), and Bruce Whitaker (Shawn Atlee). Ed enjoyed his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his numerous relatives, friends, and Rotary family. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, when Covid is less threatening to a large indoor gathering. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

The family would be grateful for memorial donations in Ed’s memory, to the charity of the donor’s choice.
