Obituary of Joan Barbara Podgurny (nee Hobbins)

Joan Podgurny, beloved wife of Donald Podgurny of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 30, 2022.

She was born and raised in Edmonton but resided in Calgary for the majority of her life.

Joan is survived by her loving husband Donald; daughter Susanne Williams (Richard) and son Jeff (Laura). She is also survived by granddaughters, Marissa Williams and Sydney, grandsons, Rick Williams and Sam, and brother Bill Hobbins, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

After raising her own family, Joan spent 43 years as the librarian at Lake Bonavista Elementary School in Calgary, where she inspired both her colleagues and countless students she came in contact with to share her passion for books, reading and lifelong learning.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ghatage and the staff of the Tom Baker Cancer Clinic, staff of the Vascular Clinic at the Peter Lougheed Hospital, and staff at Care West and Rocky view Hospitals for their loving care over the last period of her life.
